A portfolio is not a storage folder. It is an argument about the quality of your thinking. Select work that proves you can understand an audience, choose an approach, execute carefully and learn from results.
For each sample, include a short case note: the situation, your role, the objective, constraints, work produced and outcome. Be precise about team contributions. Redact confidential information and obtain permission before showing client material. If a sample is speculative, say so.
Show range without creating noise. Useful evidence may include media writing, executive communication, digital content, an issues brief, event communication and an evaluation report. Explain revisions when feedback improved the work. Good judgement is often clearer in what you changed than in a polished final page.
Keep the portfolio easy to open on a phone and provide a concise PDF alternative. Check every link, caption and date. The presentation is itself a communications test: hierarchy, clarity, accessibility and attention to detail all count.
Editorial note: Invite Ghanaian hiring managers to contribute examples before publication.
